    1. Angela Merkel is the third most powerful person in the world according the annual list compiled by Forbes. She has been the highest ranking woman since the list began in 2009.

    2. Since its first sitting in September 1949, the German Bundestag has only had 8 chancellors. Over the same time period Italy has had 28 different prime ministers.
