Asset Allocation and trends within European
investor portfolios

During 2018, the BlackRock Portfolio Analysis & Solutions (BPAS) team analysed the asset allocation and portfolio trends of over 600 client portfolios from across EMEA, with an estimated USD$160 billion of assets under management, and interviewed 15 key EMEA investors on forward looking challenges related to portfolio construction.

This paper outlines the portfolio construction trends we see and hear with our sample of EMEA investors. It also offers inputs and ideas on how investors may better achieve their investment objectives in the challenging years ahead.

Emerging Trends

We conclude the study with a look at emerging trends as identified through interviews with wealth managers and private banks across EMEA.

We share these investors' expectations on future changes in their portfolio construction processes, their view on the drivers that are behind such changes, and how they plan to implement changes in their portfolios.

Three clear shared themes emerged: continued pressure on fees, an interest in sustainable investing and moving towards incorporating megatrend views in portfolios.
